Marion Anderson Operatic and concert star Marian Anderson was commemorated on a new United States postage stamp on Jan. 27, 2005. The stamp honoring Anderson is the 28th in the Postal Service's popular Black Heritage series. A gifted vocalist, Anderson was one of the greatest classically trained singers of the 20th century and an important figure in the struggle of black Americans for racial equality.
